Terms and Conditions

To maintain a professional and reliable service for all students, I do have terms and conditions for tuition.  Hybrid mobile and online teaching involves complicated timetabling and as such this level of service requires more planning than other types of tuition.  By receiving tuition with Kevin, it is viewed that you have accepted these terms in full.  They are clearly signposted to clients at the start of tuition and at the start of each term.

Updated July 2026 - Valid from 1st August 2026 onwards

Payment and Pricing

1) Payment is made in 5-week blocks or larger by arrangement.  I do not accept weekly payments.

2) Initial payment is made on booking a lesson slot with Kevin, prior to starting tuition.  The time and slot offered will be reserved for 48 hours for initial payment to be made.

3) Moving forward after the initial block, payment is invoiced on week 4 and renewed on week 5 by BACS only.

4) No lesson will take place if payment is late by week 1 and the slot may be forfeited to a student on my waiting list without notice.

5) Payment outstanding, whether full or part after week one will be subject to a £20 admin fee to resume tuition.

6) Block payments are non-refundable unless Kevin cancels tuition (except for circumstances of inappropriate behaviour).

7)  Advertised pricing is for in person tuition in areas I currently teach in, on days I am currently there, or online alternatives.  Special in person appointments may carry additional surcharges to cover extraordinary time and distance.

8) Payment is reviewed in time for the start of each academic year (September to August) and published on this website in the summer term.  The link will be signposted digitally at the start of the autumn term.

9)  Special assessment lessons or flexi lessons are chargeable for any cancellation once booked and confirmed.  Flexi lesson blocks must be completed within an 8 week term period.

Cancellations

1) Your lesson slot is reserved for you each week.  As such, the time cannot be offered to another student when cancelled as every student has their own day and time.  All lesson slots are paid for regardless of attendance by the student.  Tuition only takes place during my advertised term dates.  These are signposted here - https://www.blackpoolmusiclessons.co.uk/diary-holiday-dates

2) If Kevin has to cancel tuition due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances and can't provide online/distance learning alternatives, the lesson will be rolled over or made up if possible to do so.

School Tuition

1) School tuition is to be paid for in termly blocks prior to the end of the previous term, no later than the provided deadline.

2) If I need to cancel tuition, the lesson time will either be made up or discounted from the next block of tuition fees.

3) No refund will be paid for missed lessons during school for any reason including school trips, unforeseen school closure, school room availability, strikes, illness or pandemic restrictions that a school or union related to school imposes.  If the school is unable to accommodate an extra alternative day to catch up from a school closure, one of the following options will come in to play - 1) Alternative online lessons will be provided for private students during matching school hours or video package lessons as a last resort, if I am unable.  Video package lessons will be provided automatically for those that have group lessons, these will be delivered once a week and video performances can be submitted by return for marking and feedback via WhatsApp for ease of use until normal lessons resume. 2) Extra time will be added to future lessons as an alternative to option 1, if time allows.

4) Music and playing diaries should be sent to school each week.

Lesson Times

1) A lesson slot will be agreed on first booking, becoming your regular weekly slot.

2) A requested time change will have to be mutually agreed. If the request is not manageable, tuition may be discontinued following the cancellation policy.

3) A change of time may be requested by Kevin from time to time to keep a balanced timetable. If no mutual time can be agreed to the request, tuition may be discontinued.  Please keep a degree of flexibility on the day of your music lesson to allow for timetable movements.

4) Tuition is based on an academic timetable like most schools. School holiday dates vary from school to school, so it is important to note dates provided at the start of each term for maximum attendance.

5) Lessons need to finish on time, providing punctuality for all.

Communication with Kevin

1) I work Tuesday to Friday during signposted term dates.  Please contact me between the hours of 8.30am and 8.30pm Tuesday - Thursday and 12pm - 6pm Friday only.  Your regular lesson time should be used for any general questions.

2) WhatsApp (text) on 07989850810 or email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) are my preferred contact methods.

Terminating Tuition

1) A 5 lesson notice period is required to discontinue.  This period may be longer than 5 weeks if a school holiday coincides.

2) Kevin can cancel tuition for any reason that is deemed as ‘inappropriate behaviour’ from student, parent or other household member.  No refund of fees will be provided in these situations.  Kevin's decision on 'inappropriate behaviour' is final in all instances.

3) Tuition may be cancelled for constant late payment of lesson fees beyond payment deadline on week 5.

Student and Parent Expectations

1) It is expected that a suitable environment for lessons be set up ready for Kevin to teach to include a quiet working area, appropriate instrument and seating.

2) Under no circumstances should the lesson be in a bedroom for safeguarding reasons.

3) Students should be dressed as appropriate for a music lesson as if visiting a music school.

4) Students should complete their practice and homework each week as completed in their playing diary.

5) Parents should complete and sign the playing diary of the student each week and support in the learning of their child, especially in the case of younger children.

6) Parents should aim to sit with their child in the early years to support their practice in a similar fashion to reading with a child.

Material Purchases

1) Materials are to be paid for by the student or parent and will be invoiced as required.

2) Materials constitute any music book, music theory workbook, playing diaries (£2) or examination fees.

3) Materials will be ordered and provided once paid for and not prior.
